Inverted Bucket Steam Traps - 980 Series
The Inverted Bucket is the most reliable steam trap known, providing efficient condensate drainage for virtually all types of steam-using equipment. Applying the inverted bucket principle to a rugged cast iron package gives you an advantage in two ways. Because they can operate efficiently for extended periods of time, Armstrong cast iron inverted buckets offer significant energy savings, thereby reducing replacement/labor costs.
A unique lever system multiplies the force of the inverted bucket to resist the pressure of the system to open the valve. The unit floats freely with no fixed pivot points to allow wear or friction.
Since the device is mounted on top of the trap, dirt does not accumulate at the orifice. Tiny dirt particles remain in suspension until the bucket sinks and pulls the valve flap away from the seat, at which point they are discharged under differential pressure.
The discharge valve orifice is surrounded by a water seal to prevent loss of fresh vapor. A small vent hole in the drum creates an automatic venting system that continuously and automatically removes air and CO2 at steam temperature.
Although water discharge is sometimes interrupted, the inverted bucket trap allows continuous drainage and prevents condensation blockage. The valve is also resistant to water strikes.
