The Spirax Sarco LCS3050 is used as a low level switch for single sensors, in conjunction with the level sensor LP40, to limit the liquid level in steam boilers and (pressurized) hot water installations. The level switch cuts off heating when the level falls below a set minimum level. This single probe level switch is designed to be connected to one level sensor. When the actual level falls below the low level, the level sensor is exposed and the level switch triggers a low level alarm, the trigger point being determined by the length of the probe (level sensor LP40). At the end of the power failure delay, the two output contacts of the level switch cut off the heating safety circuit. The heating cut-off function is interlocked with the external safety circuit, and the level probe can only be deactivated when it enters the water again, and at the same time the output signal connecting to the external alarm device is momentarily switched off. If the level probe and/or the electrical connection fails, an alarm is also issued. The self-test program monitors the safety function, in case of failure the safety circuit is immediately disconnected and heating is stopped, alarm and error messages are displayed via LEDs, the output signal is immediately activated without delay, and the user can simulate the alarm by pressing the test button.
Directives and standards
- EU Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) 2014/68/EU, the level switch LCS3050 in combination with the level probe LP40 is EU type approved according to EN 12952/EN 12953.
- Functional safety in accordance with IEC 61508, the device combination LP40 + LCS3050 corresponds to a sub-system type B with safety integrity level (SIL) 3.
- Type approval according to VdTÜV Bulletin "Water Level 100".
- Complies with the requirements of the Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU and EMC Directive 2014/30/EU.
- Cannot be used in areas with explosion protection requirements according to European Directive 2014/34/EU.
