Description
Product Overview
Spirax Sarco AE50S automatic air and gas vent is designed for liquid systems to remove trapped air and gases. Removing these gases prevents system air-binding and maintains fluid circulation efficiency. The unit features a fully welded construction with a body manufactured from 304L austenitic stainless steel. The sealed design requires no maintenance and operates automatically via a float mechanism that opens to discharge air and closes when water reaches the vent.

Key Features
- Welded 304L austenitic stainless steel body construction.
- Sealed, maintenance-free design with no spare parts required.
- Complies with the European Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU (SEP for Group 2 liquids and gases).
- Available with EN 10204 3.1 material certification for the bowl, cover, and inlet connection as standard.
- Operates automatically using an internal AISI 316L stainless steel float and lever mechanism.

Applications
- Liquid systems requiring automatic venting of air and gases.
- Superheated water applications (requires 1 to 2 meters of 3/4” vertical pipeline fitted prior to the inlet, and outlet pipework sized to accommodate flash steam).
Installation and Operation
The AE50S must be installed vertically with the inlet at the bottom. At start-up, the air vent is open, allowing air to pass through the main valve. As soon as water reaches the vent, the float is raised, and the lever mechanism closes the valve. When more air reaches the vent, it displaces the water, causing the float to fall and open the valve. Because automatic air vents dribble water when discharging air, piping the discharge to a safe visible point or drain via an air break is recommended.
Free Air Discharge Capacity
The discharge capacity graph is based on air at 15 °C. If the air temperature differs, the capacity from the graph can be corrected by multiplying it by 289 / (273 + T), where T is the actual temperature in °C. It may be assumed that the air temperature equals the water temperature.
