Description

Product Overview

Spirax Sarco FTGS14 main valve assembly with float is a factory replacement kit designed specifically for Spirax Sarco FTGS14 ball float steam traps in pipe sizes DN15 (½”), DN20 (¾”), and DN25 (1”). It installs inside the trap body to restore modulating condensate drainage and positive shut-off against live steam when internal orifices or linkage mechanisms experience operational wear.

Because the host FTGS14 trap allows in-line servicing without disturbing connected pipework, installing this sub-assembly renews the core mechanical discharge system while reusing the existing austenitic stainless steel body and nickel-plated SG iron cover.

Key Features

  • Factory-matched assembly containing valve seat (item 5), seat gasket (item 6), pivot frame assembly screws (item 7, 2 off), ball float and lever (item 8), pivot frame (item 10), pivot pin (item 11), cover gasket (item 3), and valve spring (item 28 for DN25 / 1” models).
  • All working components constructed from stainless steel to withstand abrasive condensate and line velocities.
  • Includes a reinforced exfoliated graphite cover gasket with an internal stainless steel support ring to re-seal the main body joint upon maintenance completion.
  • Calibrated configurations matching maximum differential pressure ratings of 4.5 bar (FTGS14-4.5), 10 bar (FTGS14-10), and 14 bar (FTGS14-14).

Applications

  • Scheduled overhaul and routine refurbishing of Spirax Sarco FTGS14 series ball float steam traps.
  • Remediation of steam leakage resulting from wire-drawing, erosion, or debris impingement on the main discharge orifice.
  • Replacement of mechanical float linkages damaged by system waterhammer or mechanical vibration.
  • Pressure-range conversion between 4.5 bar, 10 bar, and 14 bar internal orifice limits on compatible DN15 to DN25 trap bodies.

Installation and Maintenance Procedures

Fitting the Main Valve Assembly

  1. Ensure the steam trap is isolated from both supply and return pipelines, depressurized to atmospheric conditions, and allowed to cool to ambient temperature.
  2. Undo the four cover bolts (item 2) using a 17 mm A/F spanner and lift off the body (item 1). Note that minimum withdrawal distance to remove the cover is 105 mm for DN15/DN20 or 120 mm for DN25.
  3. Remove the existing float assembly (items 7, 8, 10, and 11) by undoing the two M4 x 6 assembly set screws (item 7).
  4. Unscrew and remove the main valve seat (item 5) using a 17 mm A/F tool. Discard the old seat gasket (item 6).
  5. Thread the new valve seat (item 5) with its new stainless steel gasket (item 6) into the body and tighten to 50–55 N m.
  6. For DN25 (1”) traps, fit the valve spring (item 28).
  7. Secure the complete new float assembly to the body using the two assembly set screws (item 7), tightening them to 2.5–3.0 N m.
  8. Clean all joint faces. Fit a new cover gasket (item 3) and reassemble the body, tightening the cover bolts (item 2) evenly to 47–50 N m.

Ordering Spare Parts

Always specify the exact spare part description, nominal trap diameter, trap model, and maximum differential pressure rating when ordering. Example: 1 off Main valve assembly for a Spirax Sarco ½” FTGS14-10 ball float steam trap.
