Description
Product Overview
Spirax Sarco Spring Shaft Kit 1361282 / 1360180 is a dedicated mechanical replacement assembly for the internal snap-action mechanism of MFP14 series automatic condensate pumps. Installed on the pump cover mechanism, this kit stores and releases mechanical energy from float movement to snap the motive inlet and exhaust valves between positions during discharge and filling cycles.

Pumps manufactured with date code F04 and later incorporate an improved spring retention method utilizing blind spring anchors. The blind anchor configuration relies on spring tension to secure the forward shaft in place, eliminating the locking grub screw used in earlier builds. This kit services current pumps and upgrades older pre-F04 mechanisms.
Key Features
- Complete replacement set includes two pre-assembled spring sets with blind anchors, one threaded M6 actuator shaft, one plain actuator shaft, M6 nuts and washers, and one loose M5 extraction nut.
- Blind anchor retention system holds the plain shaft under spring tension, eliminating the anti-rotation grub screw and reducing mechanical wear points.
- High-specification spring metallurgy utilizing Inconel 718 (ASTM 5962 / ASTM B367) for DN50 and DN80 pumps, or BS 2056 302 S26 Grade 2 stainless steel for DN40 pumps.
- Precision shafts and anchors manufactured from BS 970 431 S29 stainless steel with Grade A2 stainless steel hardware.
- Direct backward compatibility allows pre-date code F04 mechanisms to convert to the modern anchor configuration during routine maintenance.

Applications
- Overhaul and scheduled servicing of worn or fatigued snap-action mechanism springs in Spirax Sarco MFP14 automatic pumps.
- Remediation of pump stalling caused by broken springs, deformed linkages, or loss of spring tension.
- Upgrading legacy pre-F04 pump mechanisms from grub-screw shaft retention to the modern blind anchor retention design.
- Maintenance of MFP14, MFP14S cast steel, and MFP14SS stainless steel pumps operating on steam, compressed air, or inert motive gas supplies.
Removal and Installation Instructions
Isolate all steam, condensate, and motive pressure lines prior to opening the pump. Relieve internal pressure and allow hot components to cool to prevent injury. Dismantle carefully to avoid hazards from the high-tension snap-action mechanism.

Removal of Existing Springs
- Disconnect piping, remove cover bolts (tightened to 121–134 N m), and lift the cover and mechanism assembly from the body.
- On pre-date code F04 mechanisms, remove the M6 nuts and washers from the existing rear M6 actuator shaft nearest the pillar.
- Withdraw the spring sets from both ends.
- Screw the supplied loose M5 nut on top of the existing grub screw locking nut and lock them together.
- Using the lower existing locking nut, unscrew and remove the grub screw from the actuator arm.
- Withdraw both actuator shafts from the mechanism.

Fitting the New Spring and Shaft Assembly
- Slide the new M6 threaded actuator shaft into the actuator arm, ensuring it is positioned at the rear nearest the pillar.
- Place the supplied M6 washers over the shaft ends.
- Apply a drop of Loctite 620 adhesive to the shaft threads and torque tighten the M6 nuts to 9–11 N m (6.6–8.1 lbf ft).
- Slide the new plain shaft into the forward actuator arm.
- Hook the blind spring anchors over the ends of the plain actuator shaft, ensuring the shaft bottoms fully inside the blind holes.
- Verify that the shafts and springs are centralized and that both springs run parallel.
- Do not refit the grub screw to the actuator arms.
